Information

Retro table lamp based on model 540 by Gino Sarfatti. Although almost everyone attributes this table lamp to designer Gino Sarfatti, this is not the case. The lamps are very similar. This model was produced in the 1970s by Insta GmbH (a German quality manufacturer) and is indeed based on the 540 model but was called Sensorette.

If we look closely, we do see small differences between the two lamps. On model 540, there are round holes on the lampshade from front to back. With this lamp we also see holes, but these are not round, rather oval and are located around the opening of the lampshade.

Many variants have been made based on this table lamp. You can find them in different colours and sizes.
And you can even come across them as a floor and hanging lamp.

However, as mentioned before, this lamp is produced by Insta GmbH. In addition to this version where the lamp turns on with a switch, they also produced a version where the lamp turns on by touching the lampshade. In addition, different variants in color and size have been produced.

Insta GmbH was founded in 1970 by Berker and Gir + Jung.

Gino Sarfatti, born in 1912 in Italy, Venice. Studied at the University of Genoa. After he stopped his studies, he founded his company Arteluce in 1935. As a designer he designed many lamps including table lamp 540 from the 1968 series. Many variations based on this design were produced by different companies.

In 1973 Gino Sarfatti sold his company Arteluce to the American company Flos. Today Flos still produces Gino's famous chandelier model 2097 from 1957 with 30 or 50 light points.

Sarfatti died on March 6, 1985 in Italy.
