The French Muller family is originally from the Alsace region. They settled near Nancy in Luneville in 1870.

In principle, 3 of the 9 brothers: Henri, Desire and Eugene, joined Emile Galle as glass workers. In 1897, Henri Muller left Galle and set up his own studio in the rue Sainte-Anne in Luneville; his other brothers, his sister and his father soon joined him. Muller Freres was created. Emile Galle 'was not amused' to say the least, Muller Freres was a direct competitor and almost all of them had learned and refined the trade in his studio.

The glass was blown at the Hinzelin glassworks in nearby Croismare, and the ironwork they designed for lighting, for example, was manufactured at Chapelle Metaalwerking in Nancy. In 1910 the brothers even opened a second studio in Luneville. Both focused on glass art and are considered Art Nouveau and later Art Deco.

Extensive use was made of 'Cameo glass'. The commonly used techniques: 'Pate de Verre' and 'engraving'. The most beautiful pieces were polished with fire, giving them a beautiful sparkle. In 1936 Muller Freres had to close its doors.
