Old Wall Lamps - What to look out for when buying?

The most important thing when considering to buy an old wall lamp is of course whether you like it and whether it fits in the room where you want to hang it. It is also important that the lamp works well. All old wall lamps we receive are technically checked and where necessary perfectly restored. This way you always know that your lamp is ready for use.

Why do you buy an old wall lamp, whether it's a 50's or an Art Deco period lamp? Probably because they bring style, warmth, atmosphere, a piece of history into your home. Or because you are really looking for something unique, which completes your interior. And yes, of course also because they give light.

What kind of light are you looking for?

A number of key words / questions, so you can let your thoughts flow:

  • Do you want the light to be directed upwards, or downwards?
  • Are you looking for direct light or more indirect light?
  • Do you want to be able to read in the light, or is the aim mainly to provide atmospheric lighting?
  • Do you want to be able to direct the light?
  • Does the lampshade need to be hinged or is that not important?
  • Do you know that you can use some wall lights both as uplight (shining up) and as downlight (shining down)?
  • Finally, do you perhaps pursue a certain style, colour or design?

Are you really looking for something specific? We might know exactly which old wall lamps meet your wishes. Contact us and we will be happy to help you find the right lamp.

Wall Lamp and Mounting / Power Supply

There are roughly 2 ways when it comes to attaching a wall lamp to the wall.

Option 1: Most common situation, drill a hole in the wall, plug and hook, hang the lamp. The cord goes to the socket. A very practical question: where is your socket and how much cord do you need?

Option 2: Connect directly to a power point (wall socket) in the wall. The cord "disappears" into the wall. In this case, look closely at the wall plate (dimensions and mounting) of the lamp. Are you renovating? Then of course it is nice to use the cord or contact point exactly where the lamp needs to hang. This way you will no longer see any cords or connection points.

Combining Old Wall Lamp and LED Lighting, is that possible?

Yes, that is an excellent combination. Led lamps are available in E14 fitting and in E27 fitting nowadays, no problem. And the light from LED lamps is also becoming more and more atmospheric. Moreover, the retro look is totally hip these days, so you can find a lot of new lamps that look like an old, stylish incandescent lamp that fit perfectly in the atmosphere and style of our old wall lamps.

What do we do after we have purchased an old Wall Lamp?

Step 1: clean well, that's often really necessary. So wash and polish. This sometimes requires a special approach. For example, we have copper wall lamps or very fragile materials that need to be cleaned.
Step 2: mechanical and electrical inspection. And repair where necessary (cord, fittings, etc.). We always try to find a balance between preserving the old and authentic character of the wall lamp and functioning well in the present time.
Step 3: Photography and placement online.

Anyway, plug-and-play, that's what we strive for as much as possible when you receive the lamp at home and unpack it. This way, you can immediately hang and use your antique or brocante wall lamp. Because you want to see what our wall lamps look like, we try to take as many detailed photos of our products as possible. This will give you the best possible and most realistic picture of our old wall lamps. All our wall lamps have of course been used before, so it is possible that light traces of use are visible. However, we are of the opinion that that only enhances the true authentic style of a lamp with such great history.
