For example for an (old) lamp with a rod with 1.3 cm (M13) 0.5 inch screw thread.
Turn the hook on the end of the rod.
Then tighten the screw briefly; an extra safety; so that the lamp cannot rotate and thereby loosen.
You can now hang the lamp on the hook, attached to your ceiling.
